Reality is Malleable, Thank Goodness

Brain imaging studies have been helpful in demonstrating the measurable effects of hypnosis on people’s brains, quelling speculation that hypnosis is simply a conditioned response, or “faked.” A study from the University of Oregon shows that our top-down processes can override sensory information and directly instruct the mind to replace its customary perception with something new; thus effectively replacing perceived “reality” with another reality (Gosline, 2004; Raz, 2005). this fascinating article in the NYT seems to suggest same:
